Care and education at Sunshine & Showers Nursery School

We follow the statutory Early Years Foundation Stage with regards to providing care and education.

Each child is treated as an individual and is assigned a Keyperson. This person is responsible for all of the child’s needs, including personal, social, emotional and developmental learning. The Keyperson plans an individual curriculum for each of the children assigned to them and ensures all children are making good progress.

The Early Years Foundation Stage consists of four main principles; A Unique Child, Positive Relationships, Enabling Environments and Learning & Development.

The seven areas for Learning & Development are:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional
  • Physical
  • Communication and Language
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Meals and food

Snacks are provided mid-morning and mid-afternoon, breakfast is provided for children starting before 8.30 am. This applies to both settings.

St Marys Bay offers a home cooked meal in the evening for children staying past 4.30pm and requests parents/carers to provide a packed lunch for midday.

Dymchurch offers the option of a school dinner midday at a fee of £2.10 or parents/carers can provide a packed lunch. We like to encourage the children to eat a wide range of healthy and nutritional foods, drawing the emphasis away from sweets and fatty foods.
